In grad school, while trying to figure out the language of my thesis, I spent a lot of time writing. A good bit of this writing was directed at Dan Michaelson. At one point, I was writing to him about "objects" and "scripts"—how objects have these scripts embedded in them, compelling us to use them in particular ways. Dan pointed out that it wasn't really a thing and its order that I was talking about because you could flip the line of thinking and see just the order.

 

As I daydream toward the ideal studio, I'm realizing that my filing system might be similarly corrupted. I started off with a folder for "stoodios" and a folder for "tools" and I'm finding myself staring at the folders while my mind toggles back and forth in attempt to discern if I am looking at a tool or a studio.
